Nigeria’s commercial vehicle space could be set for increased competition as Chery moves to expand into the segment.

The automaker is considering a strategic push into Nigeria’s evolving commercial vehicle market, building on its growing presence in the passenger vehicle category.

The development was disclosed during a visit by Kim Luo, Country Director, Passenger Cars at Chery International, to Carloha Nigeria, the brand’s authorised distributor in the country.

“The Nigerian market has shown strong potential and resilience,” Luo said. “The acceptance of our passenger vehicles encourages us to deepen our investment, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment where demand is rising.”

Analysts say the planned expansion could intensify competition in Nigeria’s automotive sector, particularly in logistics and enterprise mobility.

Chery is expected to introduce a range of commercial vehicles designed for local operating conditions, targeting sectors such as haulage, construction, and small and medium-scale enterprises.

At the centre of the expansion is Carloha Nigeria, whose growing footprint has helped position the brand among emerging players in the local auto market.

Its Managing Director, Sola Adigun, described the move as a significant step for both the company and the industry.

“This reflects confidence in Nigeria’s market,” he said. “We remain committed to expanding operations and delivering solutions that meet the needs of businesses and consumers.”
