Emirates Airline has confirmed plans to resume flight operations to Nigeria, marking the end of nearly two years of suspended services on the route.
This was contained in a statement by the airline’s Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, on Thursday.
“We are excited to resume our services to Nigeria. We thank the Nigerian government for their partnership and support in re-establishing this route, and we look forward to welcoming passengers back on board,” the statement said.
Veritas Nexus reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) halted visa issuance to Nigerians in 2022 following Emirates’ suspension of flights between both countries, a move triggered by the airline’s inability to repatriate its funds from Nigeria.
The airline has been popular with Nigerian customers in the past, and Emirates said it hopes to reconnect travelers to Dubai and onwards to more than 140 destinations with its resumption of services.
The resumption follows a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held last September in Abu Dhabi.
