Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that she sometimes cries and breaks down in private despite maintaining a cheerful public image, opening up about the emotional pressures that come with fame.
Akindele made the disclosure in an interview with CNN, where she discussed public scrutiny, criticism of her personal relationships and the challenge of balancing her successful career with her emotional well-being.
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life,” she said.
The actress, known for her energetic public appearances and successful film productions, explained that her public image does not always reflect the emotional struggles she experiences behind closed doors.
She also recalled moments when public judgment made her question her personal decisions and worry about how people would perceive her.
“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she said.
However, Akindele said she had gradually learnt to confront challenges and move forward without allowing public opinion to define her life.
She also emphasised the importance of self-care and maintaining relationships with loved ones while pursuing professional success.
