First Bank of Nigeria has launched its Naira Visa Debit Card in partnership with Visa to expand secure and accessible electronic payment options for Nigerians and support the country’s growing cashless economy.

The Naira Visa Debit Card is designed for everyday consumers who need a reliable payment solution for both local and international transactions. The card can be used across POS terminals, ATMs, and online platforms powered by Visa’s global payment network, helping customers move more easily from cash-based transactions to digital payments for shopping, utility bills, and online purchases.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s push toward a cashless economy, following continuous efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria to encourage wider adoption of electronic payment channels. The card is expected to serve customers across different income and economic groups nationwide.

Speaking on the launch, Chuma Ezirim, Group Executive, eBusiness and Retail Products at FirstBank, said the Naira Visa Debit Card was introduced to make daily transactions simpler, safer, and more rewarding for customers while improving financial inclusion and supporting Nigeria’s digital payment transition.

Also speaking, Andrew Uaboi, Vice President and Cluster Head, West Africa at Visa, said the partnership reflects Visa’s commitment to building a more inclusive and reliable payments ecosystem for everyday Nigerian consumers.

The launch further expands FirstBank’s Visa card portfolio, which already includes credit and premium lifestyle cards, ensuring customers across all segments have access to payment products suited to their needs.

The Naira Visa Debit Card is now available to eligible FirstBank customers through the bank’s branches nationwide.
