Iran launched another attack on a power and water plant in Kuwait on Saturday, forcing several power generation units to shut down, a day after a similar strike damaged another facility.
In a statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water said the latest attack targeted another electricity and water distillation plant, triggering a fire in one of its key components.
“Another electricity and water distillation plant was targeted by a hostile attack that led to a fire erupting in one of the plant’s components,” the ministry said.
The incident marks the second attack on a power and water facility in Kuwait within two days, following Friday’s strike that also caused a fire and significant damage.
Kuwait’s fire service said the latest Iranian attacks ignited fires at two separate locations, leaving several firefighters and one worker injured.
The country’s national airline also announced that most flights were being rescheduled after Kuwait International Airport temporarily suspended air traffic due to ongoing rocket and drone attacks.
Meanwhile, Bahrain said its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a wave of Iranian aerial attacks.
In a statement, the Bahraini military said its air defences “thwarted” the strikes by intercepting and destroying several incoming aerial threats.
An AFP journalist in the capital, Manama, reported hearing explosions shortly after air-raid sirens sounded across the city.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said air-raid sirens had been activated five times since dawn, urging residents to seek shelter and remain indoors.
Earlier, the Iranian military said it had targeted the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, which is used by the United States, describing the operation as retaliation for recent U.S. strikes.
According to Iran’s state broadcaster, drones targeted aircraft shelters, parking areas, fuel storage facilities used by the U.S. military at Sheikh Isa Air Base, as well as several connecting bridges in Bahrain.
