The Jigawa State Government has adopted a digital revenue collection platform to automate collections across the informal sector as part of efforts to improve transparency, strengthen accountability and eliminate revenue leakages.
The platform, developed by eTranzact International Plc, was unveiled during a stakeholders’ engagement and capacity-building programme organised in collaboration with the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) in Dutse on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the company on Saturday.
The initiative is designed to digitise revenue collection across livestock markets, grain markets, haulage operations and other informal sector activities by replacing manual collection processes with an automated electronic payment system.
According to the statement, more than 90 revenue collectors, market leaders and key stakeholders received training on the operation of the new platform.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Deputy General Manager and Group Head, Public Sector Division (States) at eTranzact International, Gabriel Essien, said the deployment demonstrates the company’s commitment to helping governments improve public sector efficiency through technology.
“Our mission is to empower governments with secure digital payment infrastructure that enhances transparency, accountability and operational efficiency.
“This platform delivers real-time transaction monitoring, eliminates revenue leakages and provides accurate data to support informed decision-making and sustainable economic development,” Essien said.
He explained that the platform integrates multiple digital payment channels, including mobile wallets, Point-of-Sale (PoS) terminals and other electronic payment solutions, enabling seamless collections while ensuring all payments are electronically tracked and remitted directly into designated government accounts.
Also speaking, the Regional Manager, Northwest, eTranzact International, Nwabueze Ugwu, said the platform was developed following extensive consultations with stakeholders to address challenges associated with informal sector revenue collection.
According to him, the solution provides end-to-end automation that improves operational efficiency, strengthens accountability and gives government agencies real-time visibility into revenue collections.
“Our technology is designed to simplify revenue administration while promoting trust, transparency and convenience for both government and taxpayers. By eliminating manual processes, we are helping public institutions maximise revenue and improve service delivery,” Ugwu said.
The Executive Chairman of the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Nasir Sabo-Idris, said the initiative would strengthen revenue administration by improving compliance, reducing leakages and equipping revenue personnel with modern technology tools.
The statement added that participants expressed confidence in the platform after a live demonstration showcased its user-friendly interface, seamless transaction process and real-time reporting capabilities.
