Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
She made the declaration during an interview with Nigerian football legend, Segun Odegbami, on 103.7FM Eagle7 Sports.
According to her, her focus is firmly set on the governorship race.
“The only thing I’ll come back to do is the governorship. And we have started that journey. We are going to see it through,” she said
Obasanjo, a former commissioner, ruled out a return to the Senate, stressing that her full attention is on the governorship race.
She also confirmed that she recently joined the APC, following sustained pressure and encouragement from her supporters.
Her declaration has effectively set the tone for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship election in Ogun State.
With her background as a former commissioner and senator, Obasanjo is widely seen as bringing significant experience that could strengthen her bid.
