Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across Nigeria added 241,590 new metered customers between January and February 2026, raising the total number of metered electricity users nationwide to 7.21 million, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Figures contained in NERC’s factsheet showed that the national metering rate increased slightly from 57.93 per cent in January to 58.57 per cent in February, reflecting slow but steady progress in reducing the country’s metering gap.

The report indicated that 119,792 customers received meters in January, while another 121,798 were metered in February. During the same period, the total number of active electricity customers rose from 12.23 million to 12.31 million.

Among the 11 electricity distribution companies, Eko and Ikeja DisCos continued to lead in metering performance, with both recording rates above 87 per cent. Eko DisCo improved from 87.15 per cent to 87.62 per cent, while Ikeja DisCo rose from 86.69 per cent to 87.16 per cent.

Abuja DisCo also posted strong growth, increasing its metering rate from 78.54 per cent to 79.37 per cent after adding 18,352 new customers in February alone.

Other distribution companies recorded moderate gains. Port Harcourt DisCo improved from 65.47 per cent to 66.36 per cent, while Benin DisCo climbed from 55.16 per cent to 56.75 per cent after adding more than 25,000 metered customers across the two months. Ibadan and Enugu DisCos also recorded slight increases, remaining just above the 50 per cent metering mark.

However, northern electricity distributors continued to lag behind. Jos and Kaduna DisCos posted only marginal improvements, reaching 34.04 per cent and 35.59 per cent respectively.

Kano DisCo remained among the weakest performers, adding just 161 customers in January and 149 in February, with its metering rate staying around 35.37 per cent.

Yola DisCo ranked lowest nationwide despite a slight increase from 30.85 per cent to 31.86 per cent, highlighting ongoing challenges in expanding electricity metering coverage across parts of northern Nigeria.
