The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has officially opened the NIMASA Maritime Museum at the Nigerian Maritime Resource Development Centre (NMRDC), Kirikiri, Lagos, in a move aimed at preserving Nigeria’s rich maritime history and inspiring future generations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, represented by the Agency’s Director of Planning, Research and Data Management Services, Mrs. Aisha Jidda, described the museum as a lasting repository of Nigeria’s maritime heritage and a centre dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s maritime legacy.
According to him, the museum will serve as an educational and research hub, featuring historical artefacts, archival materials, maritime innovations and exhibits that trace the evolution of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Mobereola said the facility underscores NIMASA’s commitment to promoting maritime awareness, advancing research, preserving the country’s maritime history and inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
He also encouraged students, researchers, industry stakeholders and members of the public to visit the museum to gain a better understanding of Nigeria’s maritime journey and the sector’s vital contribution to national development and the growth of the Marine and Blue Economy.
