Premier League champions Arsenal have completed the signing of former Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer, strengthening their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old French goalkeeper joins the Gunners after ending a seven-year spell at Leeds, where he made 215 appearances in all competitions and recorded 70 clean sheets.
Meslier began his professional career with French club Lorient before joining Leeds on loan in 2019. He played a key role in helping the Yorkshire side secure promotion to the Premier League, with the move later becoming permanent.
During his time at Leeds, the French shot-stopper made 107 Premier League appearances before leaving the club at the end of last season.
Reacting to the move, Meslier expressed his excitement at joining Arsenal and his determination to help the club compete for major honours.
“I’m very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I’ve got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team,” he said.
Meslier added that he is eager to begin working with Arsenal’s goalkeeping unit, continue his development and fight for regular playing time after limited opportunities last season.
He is expected to provide competition for David Raya, who won the Premier League Golden Glove during the 2025/26 season.
The France international will wear the No. 30 shirt and join his new teammates for pre-season ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener against newly promoted Coventry City on August 21.
