Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has returned to South African club Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season, five months after leaving the club.
Chippa United confirmed the goalkeeper’s return on Sunday through its official social media channels, welcoming him back to the Eastern Cape after several months away from competitive football.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys,” the club announced. In a follow-up statement, it added: “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
The 30-year-old parted ways with Chippa United in February 2026 and spent the following months without regular club football, a situation that affected his place in Nigeria’s senior national team.
Nwabali first joined Chippa United in 2022 and gained widespread recognition for his outstanding performances with the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished as runners-up.
His return is expected to provide the experienced goalkeeper with the opportunity to regain regular first-team action and rebuild his career after months on the sidelines.
The move also offers Nwabali a fresh chance to fight for a return to the Super Eagles squad ahead of upcoming international competitions, with consistent performances at club level likely to strengthen his chances of reclaiming his place in the national team.
