The re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has come under legal challenge after the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The two petitions, dated September 5, 2026, were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting the legal process in motion over the August 15 governorship election.
The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed.
When Vanguard visited the tribunal secretariat on Monday, Belemore was in the courtroom with other officials as preparations continued for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC and PDP are both challenging the election outcome that returned Adeleke for another term in office.
The APC petition, with suit number EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The petition names Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
The PDP’s petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
With the petitions now formally displayed, the tribunal is expected to proceed with the next stages of the legal process, including the service of court processes on the parties and subsequent hearings.
Meanwhile, officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were seen entering the tribunal premises on Monday before Vanguard’s correspondent left the building.
The petitions now place Adeleke’s re-election before the tribunal, with the parties expected to present their respective cases as the legal battle over the August 15 poll unfolds.
