A major police operation in Jos has led to the arrest of 25 suspects following a coordinated raid on notorious drug hotspots in the Plateau State capital.
The operation, carried out on Saturday evening at about 7:55 p.m., targeted areas around Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction, locations long identified by security agencies as centres for the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the raid was conducted by a joint security team under the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), with support from officers of the Anglo-Jos Division, Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, Monitoring Unit, and the Eagle Eye Patrol Team.
Police said 25 suspects were apprehended during the operation, while cannabis, controlled drugs and other prohibited substances were recovered from the scene. Authorities described the exercise as successful, noting that significant quantities of illicit substances were seized.
The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the level of involvement of those arrested and to uncover possible connections to wider criminal networks operating within and beyond the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended the officers who participated in the operation, praising their professionalism and commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and improving public safety across Plateau State.
