Trump Directs U.S. Exit from 66 Global, UN-Affiliated Agencies

United States President Donald Trump has directed the withdrawal of the country from 66 international and United Nations–affiliated organisations, a move that underscores a renewed push of his “America First” foreign policy agenda and signals a tougher stance on multilateral engagement.

According to details surrounding the decision, the affected organisations cut across diplomatic, cultural, health, development, and policy-focused institutions, many of which rely heavily on U.S. funding and influence.

Trump has consistently argued that such organisations impose unfair obligations on the United States, undermine national sovereignty, and, in some cases, promote agendas that conflict with U.S. domestic priorities.

The move is also in line with previous actions taken during his time in office, including withdrawing from the World Health Organization, the Paris Climate Agreement, and UNESCO.

The decision is expected to carry far-reaching consequences for global governance and multilateral cooperation, given the historically central role of the United States in shaping policies within these institutions.

While analysts caution that the move could diminish U.S. influence on critical international issues and open the door for other powers to expand their sway, supporters argue it will reduce costs, prioritise domestic needs, and reinforce a more independent, interest-driven foreign policy stance.
