United Bank for Africa (UBA) has kicked off its 2025 Fraud Awareness Week with a renewed call for customers to remain vigilant amid the rising wave of online scams and cyber-attacks.
The bank, in a message to its customers Monday, said the week is dedicated to “Educating the public on simple but effective steps that can help prevent financial losses”.
UBA stressed that protecting customer accounts remains a top priority, but individuals must also play their part by avoiding risky behaviour.
UBA advised customers, “Never to share sensitive information such as PINs, OTPs, passwords, or card details with anyone”, warning that the bank will never request such details through calls, emails, or messages.
The statement also cautioned customers to be suspicious of any message asking them to “verify” their account or click unknown links.
The bank further encouraged users to confirm merchant details before making online payments, use strong passwords, keep their devices updated, and immediately stop any suspicious transaction to seek assistance.
Customers engaging UBA on social media were also urged to always confirm the verified tick to avoid falling into the hands of impostors.
As part of the campaign, UBA announced a Fraud Awareness Webinar scheduled for 21st November 2025 at 10 a.m. on YouTube.
The session will provide practical guidance on identifying scams, protecting personal data, and responding to fraud attempts
UBA advised that customers who misplace their ATM cards or suspect any unauthorised access can immediately block their cards by dialing 919911#, calling 02012808800 or the toll-free line 07002255822, or by emailing fraudhelpdesk@ubagroup.com or blockcard@ubagroup.com.
UBA expressed appreciation to its customers for their continued trust and assured them that even stronger security measures will be implemented as the digital banking landscape continues to evolve.
