Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in a tense quarter-final clash on Sunday evening.
The defending champions were unable to overcome a stunning 19th-minute free-kick from Cameroon’s Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen, whose strike ultimately decided the closely fought encounter.
Despite battling relentlessly for an equaliser and pushing for a way back into the game, the Super Falcons could not find the back of the net as Cameroon held on to secure their place in the next round.
The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of defending the WAFCON title they won against Morocco in the previous edition and will come as a major disappointment to the Super Falcons, who entered the tournament aiming to retain their continental crown.
Justine Madugu’s side will now turn their attention to South Africa, whom they will face on Thursday in Casablanca, with a place in the Inter-Confederation playoff tournament at stake.
