President Bola Tinubu has hinted that he may not attend campaign rallies across all states ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he needs to prioritise governance and Nigeria’s economic commitments.
Tinubu made the indication on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The president said he agreed with calls for him to avoid allowing campaign activities to distract him from running the country, stressing that Nigeria required his attention.
“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance. I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” Tinubu said.
He added that he might be excused from attending campaign events in every state, citing the need to meet the country’s financial obligations and attract foreign investment.
“You will excuse me from going everywhere with you. We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he said.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of attracting investors who would establish long-term business interests in Nigeria and contribute to the country’s economic future.
“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” he said.
