Alcaraz Beats De Minaur to Win Vienna Title, Completes Perfect ATP 500 Season

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets on Sunday to win the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, completing a perfect season at ATP 500 tournaments.

The world number three produced an impressive performance to secure a 6-1, 6-4 victory in 97 minutes, claiming his fourth tour-level title of 2026 without dropping a set throughout the five-match tournament.

Alcaraz dominated the opening set, using his power and precision from both wings to trouble De Minaur’s defensive game. Despite the Australian taking several games to deuce, the Spaniard converted three break points to seal the set 6-1.

De Minaur, who won the Rotterdam title and entered the final unbeaten in 10 indoor matches in 2026, put up a stronger fight in the second set. However, Alcaraz maintained his pressure, eventually breaking the Australian in the 10th game to secure the championship.

The Spaniard converted his first championship point after an exciting all-court rally, bringing an end to a commanding performance.

Speaking after the victory, Alcaraz acknowledged De Minaur’s quality and defensive abilities, describing the Australian’s playing style as particularly challenging.

He said he had to remain focused, play aggressively and work hard for every point because De Minaur’s speed and ability to retrieve shots made it difficult to hit outright winners.

Alcaraz added that he was delighted with his performance and described the week as emotional and amazing.

With the Vienna triumph, Alcaraz completed a perfect 16-0 record at ATP 500 tournaments in 2026, having also won titles in Doha and Tokyo.

He has now won 26 consecutive matches at ATP 500 level, with his last defeat in the category coming against Holger Rune in the Barcelona final in April 2025.

The Vienna title also takes his career ATP 500 tally to 11, placing him behind Roger Federer, who has 16 titles, and Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who have 15 each, in the series’ history since 2009.

Alcaraz won 81 per cent of points behind his first serve, converting 29 of 36 opportunities. He also extended his head-to-head advantage over De Minaur to 7-0 and maintained his unbeaten record against Australian opponents in tour-level matches at 15-0.

Now holding a 38-5 record for the 2026 season, Alcaraz will head to the Rolex Paris Masters with renewed confidence.

He has already qualified for the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and is scheduled to face either Jiri Lehecka or Alex Michelsen in his opening match in Paris.
