The Federal Government has scheduled an emergency stakeholders’ meeting for April 22, 2026, to avert a planned airfare hike and potential airline shutdown following a 300 per cent increase in aviation fuel, Jet A1.
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development made this known in a letter to airline operators dated April 16, 2026.
It will be recalled that airline operators had threatened to shut down services or significantly increase airfares as Jet A1 rose above N3,000 per litre from N900.
Moreover, in response to airline operators, Keyamo assured that the Nigerian government would intervene to avoid collapse of the sector.
“I wish to formally assure you that the concerns raised by your members have received the full attention of the federal government and we shall take immediate steps to address the issues.
“Accordingly, a high-level emergency stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Abuja to bring together key stakeholders and regulators to achieve a prompt, practical, and sustainable resolution. The venue and time will be communicated in due course.”
