President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria’s economy is on a steady growth path, attributing the progress to his administration’s financial, fiscal and tax reforms, while calling for a stronger partnership with Deloitte Africa to drive investment, youth development and job creation.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from Deloitte Africa, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ruwayda Redfearn, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu said the reforms implemented over the past three years have steadily stabilised the economy and laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth, despite the initial challenges associated with the policies.
He noted that the reforms have strengthened Nigeria’s fiscal and revenue systems, repositioned financial institutions and enhanced the country’s competitiveness in the global economy.
“Yes, reforms are difficult. Some of the decisions are like taking bitter medicine, but they are working well. Nigeria is making serious foundational progress,” the President said.
Tinubu commended Deloitte Africa for its continued interest in Nigeria’s economic transformation and urged the firm to expand its contribution by training, mentoring and recruiting young Nigerians to prepare them for opportunities in the global economy.
Recalling his early years in the accounting profession, the President praised Deloitte’s reputation for developing professionals and encouraged the firm to sustain its investment in human capital.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, said the administration’s fiscal, revenue and tax reforms are helping to strengthen the economy and urged Deloitte Africa to support efforts aimed at building the capacity of Nigerian youths.
In her remarks, Deloitte Africa Chief Executive Officer, Ruwayda Redfearn, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s reform agenda.
She said Deloitte, with more than 500,000 professionals worldwide, including over 6,000 in Africa, possesses the expertise and global experience needed to support the administration’s development priorities. She added that the company generated 74 billion dollars in revenue in 2025.
“We are before you to say that we want to serve. We have a local team on the ground that is ready, as well as the global firm, to support you and support your administration as you lead the country,” she said.
Also speaking, Deloitte Africa Chief Executive Officer, Yomi Olugbenro, commended the Federal Government’s reform efforts, saying the foundations for long-term economic transformation had been firmly established.
He noted that the next phase would be ensuring that the benefits of the reforms reach ordinary Nigerians, adding that Deloitte’s global experience in supporting governments would help Nigeria maximise the gains of its ongoing reforms.
Olugbenro reaffirmed the firm’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government in promoting sustainable economic growth, attracting investment and delivering lasting economic benefits to Nigerians.
