Residents across Ogun State are set to benefit from another 5,360 solar street lights facilitated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, as part of efforts to improve night-time security, support businesses and brighten communities across the state.
The latest consignment is expected to arrive in Ogun State from Monday for immediate installation and forms part of a larger batch of 23,000 poles scheduled for delivery before the end of the year.
The project is being implemented under Yayi’s “Light Up Ogun State” initiative, which is aimed at providing reliable street lighting while improving security, extending business hours and enhancing the appearance of communities.
The latest allocation covers the three senatorial districts, with Ogun West receiving 1,900 poles, Ogun East 1,400 poles, and Ogun Central, including Abeokuta Township, 2,060 poles.
Announcing the development over the weekend, Senator Adeola said communities and streets across Ogun State would feel the impact of the new deployment, stressing that no senatorial district would be left behind.
He said the solar street light project was part of a broader energy intervention that includes the supply and energisation of transformers, as well as the rehabilitation and reactivation of electricity infrastructure across the state.
The initiative has also recently been extended to Ogun Waterside Local Government Area in Ogun East Senatorial District.
“I am committed to providing energy infrastructure to boost the supply of electricity for domestic and other economic uses. We are also going to tap into God-given solar energy to provide light for our people in their localities and streets of Ogun State,” Adeola said.
“We intend to brighten the days and nights of our people and take them out of darkness of all sorts,” he added.
The senator said that in his last three and a half years representing Ogun State in the Senate, he had facilitated more than 80,000 solar street-light poles across the state, alongside the supply and energisation of 332 transformers of different capacities.
He also said 25 mini-grid installations had been facilitated in selected hospitals, churches and mosques.
Stakeholders across Ogun State have welcomed the intervention, saying improved street lighting could strengthen night-time security, reduce accidents and support small businesses that depend on evening and late-night trading.
With the arrival of the latest 5,360 poles, the “Light Up Ogun State” initiative is expected to expand further as installation teams move into communities across the state in the coming weeks.
