British Singer Kwn Clears Up Jamaican Assumption, Reveals ‘I Am Half Nigerian’

British singer and rapper Kwn has cleared up a long-standing assumption about her identity, revealing that she is half Nigerian despite many people believing she is Jamaican because of the strong Caribbean influence in her music and personality.

The singer, whose real name is Khyra Wilson, made the revelation while speaking on the Culture podcast, where she explained that growing up around Caribbean culture significantly shaped her sound, style and identity.

Kwn disclosed that her father is Nigerian, while her mother is Irish.

According to the “Worst Behaviour” hitmaker, people are often surprised whenever she tells them she is Nigerian because they have always assumed she is from the Caribbean.

“I am half Nigerian. Everyone thinks I am Jamaican but I am not. I grew up around Caribbean culture, so people assume I am from the Caribbean,” she said.

The singer said the assumption has been so common that very few people have correctly guessed her Nigerian heritage.

“People find it difficult if I tell them I am Nigerian. Nobody has ever guessed that I am Nigerian until recently when someone guessed it. Everyone thinks I am Caribbean,” she added.

Despite having Nigerian roots, Kwn revealed that she has never visited Nigeria. However, she expressed confidence that she would receive a warm welcome whenever she eventually makes the trip.

“But I have never been to Nigeria before. I know they are going to love me when I go over there,” she said.

Her revelation has sparked fresh interest in her Nigerian heritage, particularly among fans who have long associated her music and cultural influences with Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.

For Kwn, the revelation has offered an opportunity to share a lesser-known part of her identity with fans who may have known her music without knowing that her family roots extend to Nigeria.
