Trump Rejects AI Slowdown, Unveils ‘AI Force’ as Safety Fears Grow

US President Donald Trump has rejected calls to slow the development of artificial intelligence, declaring that he will not tolerate attempts to hinder the growth of the industry as concerns over AI safety and its rapid advancement continue to intensify.

Trump said on Saturday that he would not allow what he described as the “destruction” of the AI industry, while announcing plans to create a new government initiative known as an “AI Force” and appoint an AI “Czar” to oversee the sector.

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding that his administration would instead “cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows.”

Trump said the proposed AI Force would be tasked with looking for “BAD” actors, although he did not provide details about its structure, membership or specific powers.

His announcement comes amid growing debate in the United States over the pace of AI development and the safeguards needed to manage increasingly capable systems.

Trump has strongly defended the technology, arguing that the United States cannot afford to slow down in the global race for AI leadership, particularly as it competes with China.

The president has also dismissed some of the most serious warnings about AI as a “hoax,” even as researchers and technology leaders have raised concerns about the potential risks associated with increasingly autonomous AI systems.

Among those warning about the pace of development is former AI researcher Jacob Coxon, who previously worked at Anthropic. Coxon has said that some people working on advanced AI believe the technology could pose an existential threat if its development is not properly controlled.

Trump, however, has maintained that the United States needs strong leadership rather than measures that could hinder the industry.

He said the country must continue supporting AI development while ensuring that those who misuse the technology are dealt with.

In a separate social media post, Trump also questioned whether “artificial intelligence” remains the appropriate name for the rapidly developing technology.

He proposed three alternatives — “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” and “Supreme Intelligence” — and asked the public to vote on which name best describes what he called the technology’s growing “Revolution.”

The proposed AI Force and AI Czar would add another layer to the US government’s approach to the rapidly expanding AI sector, although Trump has yet to provide a detailed framework for how the initiatives would operate.

The developments come as governments, technology companies and researchers continue to debate how to balance AI innovation and economic competitiveness with cybersecurity, accountability and safety concerns.
