Many passengers were injured on Monday after a train on the Abuja–Kaduna route derailed following a reported collision.
The accident was confirmed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa.
According to Opeifa, the train experienced the accident near Asham during the journey.
Opeifa confirmed that several passengers sustained injuries in the incident, no fatalities had been recorded at the time of filing the report.
Therefore ,he clarified that the injured passengers were transported back to Idu Train Station in Abuja, where they were receiving medical attention.
The NRC MD added that the railway corporation has begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
Opeifa concluded that “It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident”.
