Edo Governor Okpebholo Drives Economic Expansion with Large-Scale Agriculture

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expand the State’s economy through massive investments in agriculture, declaring that “Edo is done talking, we are now doing.”

The Governor made the statement during an inspection tour of the State-owned Udomi Farm in Edo Central Senatorial District, where he led top government officials to assess progress on the expansive agricultural project.

Describing the farm as a living example of his administration’s “practical governance” approach, Governor Okpebholo said his government is determined to deliver tangible results that citizens can see and benefit from.

“This is a practical farm by my administration that delivers on practical governance,” the Governor said. “We don’t just make promises, we take action and deliver visible results for our people.”

Commending the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its impressive work on the project, Okpebholo noted that the farm aligns with his administration’s broader goals of achieving food security, creating jobs, and driving economic diversification across Edo State.

The Governor stressed that initiatives like the Udomi Farm mark a clear shift from policy rhetoric to measurable outcomes, underscoring his commitment to empowering local farmers and promoting agro-industrial development.

Briefing the Governor during the visit, the Director of Agricultural Services in the Ministry, Ogunbo Osarobo David, revealed that the maize cultivated on the 400-hectare farm had reached harvesting stage, with yields averaging six to seven tons per hectare. He added that Prime Flour Mill, Ewu, serves as the major off-taker for the produce.

Before visiting the farm, Governor Okpebholo had earlier inspected ongoing construction at the Benin Flyover, Ramat Park, Benin City, to monitor progress on the key infrastructure project.

With initiatives like these, the Okpebholo administration continues to demonstrate its commitment to turning Edo into a hub of agricultural productivity, industrial growth, and sustainable development.
