The Edo State government has form a five-man committee to investigate video footage wherein a student of igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City, is bullied by fellow students.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Edith Ebomoyi, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Education, and made available to newsmen in Benin on Saturday.
” The committee has been mandated to urgently unravel the circumstances surrounding the occurrence and identify all students found culpable”,says the Permanent Secretary,
She added that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found responsible in accordance with the rules and regulations guiding conduct in schools within Edo State.
The government, while describing the video, which had gone viral, as disturbing, condemned in strong terms the “act of violence in the strongest possible terms.”
“Such behavior is totally unacceptable and runs contrary to the values of discipline, respect, and safety which all educational institutions in Edo State are expected to uphold. The safety and well-being of every child in our schools remains a top priority of the Edo State Government.
Ebomoyi , declared that the “Ministry condemned any acts of bullying, violence, or any form of misconduct that threatens the safety of students,” assured “parents, school administrators, and the public that the Ministry will ensure that justice is served and that necessary steps are taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in any school across the State.”
