Edo Queens Clinch Second NWFL Premiership Title After Holding Bayelsa Queens

Edo Queens have emerged champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bayelsa Queens on the final day of the Super Six playoffs at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Needing only a draw to secure the title, the Benin-based side produced a disciplined performance against Bayelsa Queens, who required a win to lift the trophy. Both teams created opportunities in a closely contested encounter, but neither could find the breakthrough.

The result handed Edo Queens their second NWFL Premiership crown, further cementing their place among Nigeria’s leading women’s football clubs. Head coach Moses Aduku also made history, becoming the first manager to win three NWFL Premiership titles in six seasons, having previously won with Bayelsa Queens in 2022 and Edo Queens in 2024 and 2026.

In other Matchday Five fixtures, Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels settled for a goalless draw, while FC Robo Queens fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Abia Angels.

Edo Queens finished top of the Super Six standings with 10 points, two ahead of Bayelsa Queens, while Nasarawa Amazons placed third. Abia Angels ended their debut campaign with six points, while FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels finished with four points each.

FC Robo Queens’ Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season, while Abia Angels goalkeeper Fatima Oloko claimed the Goalkeeper of the Season award. Rivers Angels’ Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens’ Atume Doosuur shared the Golden Boot with 13 goals each, while Rivers Angels won the Fair Play Prize.

As league champions, Edo Queens will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Burkina Faso from August 13 to September 5 as they seek a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League and a pathway to the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
