The Edo State Government has begun a Train-the-Trainer Programme designed to equip vocational and technical teachers with digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI) knowledge and modern teaching methods as part of efforts to prepare students for the demands of a changing economy.
The programme, organised by the Edo State Ministry of Education under the leadership of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osifo, focuses on strengthening teachers’ professional capacity and helping them adapt to the growing influence of technology in education.
Representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the training, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Musa Yakubu, emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professional development for teachers.
The training provides participants with industry-relevant technical skills, digital technologies, competency-based teaching approaches and emerging innovations, including artificial intelligence.
Through practical sessions, teachers are being introduced to digital tools and new techniques aimed at making classroom learning more engaging, interactive and effective.
The programme is also designed to help teachers better prepare students for a labour market increasingly shaped by technology, digital skills and practical expertise.
The state government said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening the education system by investing not only in school infrastructure but also in the knowledge, skills and professional development of teachers.
Vocational and technical teachers are being prioritised because of their important role in equipping students with practical, digital and technical skills needed to compete in the modern economy.
The government said the Train-the-Trainer Programme forms part of the administration’s broader effort to build an innovative, technology-driven and skills-focused education system capable of responding to the needs of 21st-century learners.
By placing teachers at the centre of its digital education drive, the Edo State Government is seeking to ensure that classrooms keep pace with technological change and that students gain the skills needed to participate meaningfully in the modern economy.
