What began as a dispute over wages ended in tragedy for a former Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff member and her security guard.
Police in Ogun State say a 22-year-old former guard, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, has confessed to participating in the killing of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, a retired OGTV employee, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
According to investigators, Philip told detectives he recruited two accomplices to “teach her a lesson” over what he considered poor pay during his time working for her. The plan allegedly escalated into a deadly attack that claimed two lives.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed that detectives found Adetayo dead in the security post and Madam Oyesiku in a pool of blood inside her home after receiving a distress report on June 21.
The victim’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, prompting an intensive investigation. Within 24 hours, police tracked and recovered the vehicle, despite efforts by the suspects to conceal its identity by removing the number plates and ignition key.
A handwritten note reportedly left at the scene provided a crucial lead. Forensic analysis helped detectives identify and arrest Philip at a construction site in Abeokuta, before apprehending two other suspects, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho.
Police allege that the suspects overpowered Adetayo to gain access to the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. The guard was later killed, investigators said.
Authorities recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.
While noting that the suspects have made useful confessional statements, police stressed that they remain entitled to a fair trial as investigations continue.
