First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited has appointed renowned economist Mr. Bismarck Rewane as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of its Board of Directors, following approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Rewane is a respected figure in Nigeria’s financial sector, bringing over four decades of experience in macroeconomic research, investment banking, and strategic management.
He currently serves as the Managing Director of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, a leading financial advisory and economic research firm. A Fellow of the Nigerian Economic Society, Rewane has also held key leadership positions at International Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited and First National Bank of Chicago.
An Economics graduate of the University of Ibadan, Rewane is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Bankers of England and Wales.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has served on the boards of several blue-chip companies and multinational organisations, including Guinness Nigeria Plc, British American Tobacco, Henkel Nigeria Limited, Top Feeds Nigeria Limited, and Africa Infrastructure Plus Partners.
He was also a member of the Presidential Steering Committee established to address the effects of the global economic crisis.
In addition, Rewane has completed executive management programmes at prestigious institutions, including the Oxford International Capital Markets Programme, the Euromoney Institute of Finance, and IMD Lausanne, Switzerland.
Welcoming the appointment, FCMB’s Board of Directors expressed confidence that Rewane’s extensive expertise in macroeconomics, corporate governance, and strategic leadership, combined with the bank’s strengthened capital base, will enhance its leadership and support the next phase of growth while delivering sustained value to stakeholders.
