INEC Configures 6,879 BVAS Devices Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that no fewer than 6,879 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices have been configured and are ready for deployment ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, disclosed this during the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting in Awka on Tuesday.

According to the INEC Chairman, eleven out of the thirteen activities outlined for the election on Saturday have been successfully met.

He stated that the commission has published all the names of the sixteen candidates participating in the election, insisting that any candidate whose name was not published in the list would not participate in the election.

He announced that about 3,456 persons with disabilities will be voting to exercise their civic rights.

The INEC chairman noted that about 6, 829 BVAS have been deployed and configured for the election and the IReV is ready to upload results in real time and the winner announced without delay.

Also speaking, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the police would be civil in their conduct during the election.

Represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, in charge of Force Intelligence, Benjamin Okolo, the IGP said violence and inducement will not be tolerated during the election

The police boss advised political parties and their candidates to persuade voters than resorting to provocation.
