Kira Taiwo, daughter of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has raised concerns over her father’s health, accusing some people of attempting to profit from the family’s difficult situation.
Kira made the emotional disclosure during a TikTok live session on Saturday, where she broke down while discussing her father’s condition and the financial demands allegedly being made by some people offering to help the family.
“My father is a good father. Some people are even trying to make money with us in this whole situation. Fear God,” she said, adding that some individuals had demanded amounts ranging from N800,000 to N5 million, $11,000 and $18,000.
She said the family could not afford such demands, stressing that their priority was to secure treatment for the actor.
Kira also disclosed that the situation had affected her own emotional and physical wellbeing, saying, “I want to check my BP, I am not okay too.”
The actor’s daughter said Ogogo’s illness had also taken an emotional toll on his brother, whom she affectionately called her “big daddy”.
According to her, the two brothers share an exceptionally close relationship, making the situation particularly painful for the entire family.
Kira said she had become withdrawn and avoided social media because she found it difficult to see pictures of her father while he battled the illness.
“I don’t even know how I will see the world again. If anything happens to my daddy… Please don’t think I am here to ask for sympathy or anything,” she said.
Kira and her sister, Lima Taiwo, recently appealed to Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals for assistance after revealing that Ogogo was battling cancer.
Lima said the actor’s condition had deteriorated and that hospitals had stopped continuing his treatment. She said the family only discovered the seriousness of his condition about three weeks earlier because his physical appearance had not initially suggested that he was seriously ill.
She stressed that the family was not asking for financial donations, but medical assistance from professionals or facilities capable of treating the actor.
Kira later disclosed that hospitals had told the family they could no longer continue chemotherapy and appealed to medical professionals with experience in cancer treatment to come forward.
She also appreciated Senator Yayi, whom she said had been helping the family and footing Ogogo’s medical bills.
“If you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” Kira pleaded.
She became emotional while describing her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him in such pain and revealing that he had expressed fear of dying.
Taiwo Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry whose career spans more than four decades. Popularly known as Ogogo, he has featured in more than 300 films and remains one of the prominent actors in Yoruba-language cinema.
