The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, alongside the Senator representing Ogun Central, Shuaibu Afolabi Salisu, has emphasized that associations, unions, and social clubs can significantly advance national growth by taking a more active role in the leadership recruitment process.

They made the remarks on Saturday in Abeokuta during the investiture of the new executive of the Abeokuta Sports Club, led by its President, Alhaji Taoheed Awodele.

In her address, the deputy governor urged the newly inaugurated leadership to focus on impact, progress, harmony, and fresh opportunities for the club.

Leadership, she noted, is about ensuring that things are left better than they were found. She described the Abeokuta Sports Club as far more than a sports or social centre.

“It is a place where elites and intellectuals converge, where the young and old meet to exchange ideas, where camaraderie is nurtured, and where the future of Abeokuta’s social and civic landscape continues to take shape. This club is a community — a space built on mutual respect, shared interests, and a long-standing tradition of excellence,” she said.

n his part, Salisu urged Abeokuta Sports Club and other associations to take part in the leadership recruitment process.

“It is the duty of clubs like this to also provide clarity. To assist people to decipher from what is good, both in the long and short term. And what also meant just for political approach.

“They’re supposed to be a repository of knowledge assisting those of us who are in political offices. To shape the policy, to provide policy input and to also help to clarify issues,” the senator who was inducted as Vice Patron alongside others, said.

The new President, Awodele, promised to lead, in the next two years, with integrity, transparency and relentless passion.

He also outlined plans to develop modern swimming pools, complete the tennis house, reconstruct the 5-a-side soccer pitch and its gallery, and embark on other key infrastructure upgrades.Social Clubs Are Catalysts for National Development – Ogun Deputy Governor
