Spain were crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions on Sunday after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a hard-fought final that was decided in extra time.
The victory earned La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title, adding to their historic triumph in 2010.
Luis de la Fuente’s side dominated much of the contest, controlling possession and creating the better chances, while Argentina struggled to impose themselves throughout the match.
Despite Spain’s dominance, neither side managed to break the deadlock after 90 minutes, forcing the final into extra time.
Argentina’s hopes suffered a major setback in the first half of extra time when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, reducing the defending champions to 10 men.
Spain eventually capitalised on their numerical advantage early in the second half of extra time when Ferran Torres fired home after latching onto a knockdown from Nico Williams to score the decisive goal.
Torres’ strike sealed a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Spain, earning La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title and ending Argentina’s reign as world champions.
