Troops Kill Six Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists in Adamawa Base Attack

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Adamawa State, with six insurgents reportedly killed and weapons and ammunition recovered.

The attack targeted the Forward Operating Base in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area, at about 9:07 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni.

Goni said the terrorists advanced on foot from the LAR axis in an attempt to overrun the military position but were forced to retreat following a response by the troops.

He said subsequent operations in the area led to the discovery of six bodies believed to be those of the insurgents killed during the encounter.

The military said troops recovered one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.

Other items recovered included an Infinix Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.

However, some soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter. Goni said the wounded personnel were receiving medical attention, while arrangements were being made for their evacuation.

He added that troops had intensified surveillance and continued operations around the area to prevent further attacks and recover additional items of operational significance.

Goni said the Theatre Command remained committed to intelligence-driven operations aimed at restricting terrorist movements, protecting communities and restoring peace and security across the North-East.
