The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has lamented that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, once largely associated with northern Nigeria, have now reached his doorstep in the South.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye said the worsening insecurity has left many Nigerians questioning God’s intervention, while those allegedly responsible continue to move about freely.
“It’s so bad, far worse, that people are asking, ‘Where is your God?’ That’s how bad things are. The terrorism, kidnappings and other bad things that used to happen in the North are now happening right near my home. They have travelled all the way to the southern part. And, of course, the sponsors are all well-known, and they are still moving around without any restrictions,” he said.
The cleric disclosed that he discussed the country’s security challenges with President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the RCCG.
According to Adeboye, he urged the President to direct the military to eliminate the security threat within 90 days.
“I told him to give the military a clear order: wipe out this rubbish within 90 days or resign. Then go after the supporters and the sponsors,” he said.
Adeboye further alleged that some politicians and businessmen are financing terrorism and banditry, insisting that the government must target those funding the violence rather than only confronting the attackers.
“Some of them are businessmen. Some of them are politicians. Go after them. If you don’t take action against those providing weapons and bullets, the problem will continue. We must target those funding these criminal activities,” he added.
