The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two long-awaited security surveillance aircraft, marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve security across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid security response in Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the government described the arrival of the aircraft as another milestone in its commitment to tackling insecurity through modern technology.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” the statement said.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had announced on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos before being moved to Oyo State.
He added that the government had earlier assured residents that the aircraft would arrive before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
According to the commissioner, the surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving emergency response across the state.
Governor Makinde was also present at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to receive the two aircraft on arrival.
The Oyo State Government first announced the purchase of the surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the capacity of security agencies in addressing emerging security threats.
The arrival of the aircraft comes months after the governor unveiled plans to deploy modern aerial surveillance platforms to combat kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities, reinforcing the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
