The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed a major boost in prize money for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the tournament winner set to receive $10 million—up 43% from 2023 and double the amount awarded in 2021.
The prize money for AFCON 2025 is structured as follows:
– Winner: $10 million
– Runner-up: $4 million
– Semi-finalists: $2.5 million each
CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the increased prize money after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco. The continental body described the increment as part of efforts to enhance the value, competitiveness, and global appeal of Africa’s flagship football competition .
The increased prize money is expected to attract more top players to the tournament and improve the overall quality of the competition. It will also provide a significant boost to the winner’s finances, which can be used to develop football infrastructure and support local teams .
AFCON 2025 is set to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, showcasing some of Africa’s top teams and players, with the heightened prize money adding extra excitement to the competition.
