Axxela Extends Gas Pipeline Network By 39km, Records Zero Fatalities

Axxela Limited, a gas and power company operating across sub-Saharan Africa, extended its gas pipeline network by 39 kilometres in 2025 while recording zero fatalities across its operations, as it intensified efforts to expand domestic gas access and support cleaner energy use in Nigeria.

The company disclosed this in its 2025 Sustainability Report, released on September 1, 2026, detailing its environmental, social and governance performance during the year.

According to the report, the pipeline expansion improved gas connectivity across Lagos, Ogun and Rivers states and enabled new industrial and commercial customers to connect to Axxela’s network.

The company also recorded 9.6 million lost-time-injury-free man-hours during the period, underscoring its focus on workplace safety across its operations.

Axxela further strengthened its sustainability performance after receiving a Gold Medal rating in the EcoVadis Sustainability Assessment, placing it among the top five per cent of companies assessed globally.

It also secured Great Place to Work certification during the year.

Commenting on the report, Axxela’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Moshood Olajide, said expanding domestic gas utilisation remained central to the company’s growth strategy.

He said connecting more customers to gas infrastructure would enable industries to adopt cleaner and more efficient energy sources while reducing dependence on more polluting fuels.

“Expanding domestic gas utilisation remains central to our strategy. Each new customer connection supports cleaner and more efficient energy use,” Olajide said.

He added that Axxela would continue investing in infrastructure to support Nigeria’s transition towards a more sustainable gas-powered economy.

On environmental management, Axxela said it maintained compliance registers, conducted annual environmental audits and risk assessments, and carried out quarterly scans for emerging risks across its operations and projects.

The company also implemented rehabilitation programmes and operational controls aimed at reducing environmental disturbances and protecting biodiversity.

The 2025 report is Axxela’s ninth consecutive sustainability report and was prepared in line with the core requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative Standards.

Axxela said the report was intended to provide transparent disclosure of its sustainability performance while outlining its priorities and actions for responsible growth.
