The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, has called on public relations practitioners to uphold professionalism, ethical standards and strategic communication as the profession marks World Public Relations Day 2026.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the annual celebration, Dr. Ayetutu congratulated public relations professionals, particularly members of the Lagos State Chapter of NIPR, describing the occasion as an opportunity to celebrate the profession’s contributions to organisational success, societal progress and national development.
He said that at a time when societies are grappling with misinformation, declining public trust and increasingly complex social challenges, Public Relations has become more important than ever in fostering understanding, strengthening stakeholder relationships and promoting national stability through strategic communication.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “The Golden Age of Strategic PR,” Dr. Ayetutu said the theme underscores the evolution of public relations from a communication support function to a strategic leadership discipline that influences policy, guides organisational decision-making, manages crises and creates lasting value for institutions and society.
According to him, Nigeria’s development requires communication professionals who can anticipate emerging issues, provide sound strategic counsel, promote constructive dialogue among stakeholders and build the trust needed to support economic growth, good governance and social cohesion.
He urged practitioners to recommit themselves to the ethics and core values of the profession by promoting integrity, truth, accountability and excellence in all aspects of their work.
The NIPR Lagos Chairman also called on members to support the Institute’s ongoing efforts to eliminate quackery within the profession, stressing that protecting the integrity and credibility of public relations is a collective responsibility.
He noted that maintaining professional standards and ethical practice will strengthen public confidence in the profession and reinforce its role in national development.
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ayetutu wished all practitioners a memorable and rewarding World Public Relations Day 2026, encouraging them to continue advancing the profession through ethical and strategic practice.
