The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) has launched a renewed campaign to boost public awareness, deepen grassroots mobilisation, and expand nationwide education on the economic and environmental advantages of CNG. The effort aligns with the federal government’s push to steer Nigeria toward a more sustainable and inclusive energy future.
The Chief Executive Officer of PiCNG, Dr. Ismaeel Ahmed, outlined the government’s plans during a courtesy visit from the Director-General of City Boy Movement (CBM), Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, on Tuesday, aimed at forging a strategic partnership for grassroots-focused development. Dr. Ahmed emphasized that collaborating with a grassroots mobilizer like CBM would serve as a vital link between federal initiatives and local communities. He added that the partnership would enhance public awareness, deepen grassroots engagement, and highlight the environmental benefits of CNG, encouraging Nigerians to actively participate in and reap the rewards of the growing gas-powered economy.
“The partnership is expected to enhance community-level engagement, accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions, and expand access to alternative fuel options, particularly in underserved areas, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to transition Nigeria towards a more sustainable and inclusive energy future,” Dr Ahmed noted.
Earlier, the Director-General of CBM, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, highlighted that the initiative aligns closely with the City Boy Movement’s mandate to mobilise citizens at the grassroots, promote government policies, empower communities economically, foster national unity, and drive sustainable development across all 36 states and the FCT. He described the PiCNG programme as a transformative national tool capable of reducing unemployment, stimulating economic growth, and advancing environmental sustainability. “Rooted in the Renewed Hope Agenda, the PiCNG initiative encourages widespread adoption of Compressed Natural Gas, cuts costs, generates jobs, and supports environmental sustainability,” he said.
He added that CBM’s role in the partnership is to implement a bottom-up adoption strategy, ensuring that CNG-related opportunities, training, and infrastructure reach communities across the nation, both urban and rural, while supporting national priorities on sustainable transport, emission reduction, gas-flaring mitigation, and broad-based economic growth.
