Nigeria’s GDP rises by 3.89% in Q1 2026 as non-oil sector drives 96% growth

 

 

 

 

 

Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 3.89 percent in real terms in the first quarter of 2026, with the non-oil sector contributing 96.08 percent of the country’s economic output.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed this in its Q1 2026 GDP report released on Monday.

The figure represents an improvement from the 3.13 percent growth recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

According to the report, nominal GDP stood at N110.79 trillion, while real GDP was valued at N51.26 trillion in Q1 2026.

The services sector remained the biggest contributor to the economy, accounting for 57.73 percent of aggregate GDP during the period under review.

The NBS, however, noted that GDP growth slowed by 0.10 percent when compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.

The report further showed that the oil sector contributed 3.92 percent to GDP, while the non-oil sector accounted for 96.08 percent of economic activities in the first quarter of 2026.
