Ogun APC Unveils Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as Yayi’s Running Mate

 

 

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, a chartered accountant and daughter of industrialist Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa, as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Governor announced her emergence during the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, describing the decision as the outcome of extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.

Adegunwa-Balogun will contest alongside APC governorship candidate , popularly known as Yayi.

Her nomination follows the zoning of the deputy governorship position to Ogun East Senatorial District and its subsequent micro-zoning to the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency.

The 51-year-old finance professional currently serves as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Finance and Administration, at .

Political observers view her emergence as a strategic move by the APC to strengthen its appeal among professionals, women and voters in Ogun East ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking at the event, Abiodun praised party leaders and members for maintaining unity throughout the primary election process, noting that the APC produced candidates for various elective positions without major disputes, litigation or factional divisions.

He described the consensus that produced Adeola as unprecedented in Ogun State politics, saying it reflected the spirit of cooperation and peaceful succession within the party.

The governor also commended aspirants who stepped aside in the interest of party unity, describing their sacrifices as vital to the APC’s stability and preparedness for the 2027 polls.

Explaining the choice of Adegunwa-Balogun, Abiodun said equity and fairness informed the allocation of the deputy governorship slot to Ogun East.

Adeola, in his remarks, expressed confidence in her ability to complement his administration if elected, citing her extensive professional experience, leadership qualities and commitment to service.

In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun described the nomination as a call to duty and pledged to use her more than three decades of leadership and corporate governance experience to support the development of Ogun State.

She said her exposure to governance since 1999 had given her valuable insight into public administration, service delivery and the responsibilities of leadership.

According to her, the nomination represents greater inclusion of women, youths and grassroots communities in governance and decision-making.

She pledged to serve with integrity, transparency and accountability while working closely with Adeola to ensure government policies reflect the needs and aspirations of the people.

Adegunwa-Balogun also promised to help bridge the gap between government and citizens by promoting grassroots participation and inclusive development across the state.
