Paris Saint-Germain successfully retained their Champions League trophy after defeating Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Arsenal struck first through Kai Havertz, who raced clear of the PSG defence and finished clinically to give the Gunners an early advantage.

Mikel Arteta’s side held firm for much of the contest before PSG were awarded a penalty after Cristhian Mosquera brought down Kvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the box.

Ousmane Dembele converted from the spot, sending David Raya the wrong way to level the score.

With neither side able to find a winner in extra time, the match was decided on penalties. Arsenal suffered heartbreak as Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed their spot-kicks, allowing PSG to emerge victorious.

The French champions have now become the first club to win the Champions League in consecutive seasons under the competition’s new format.
