Tottenham Hotspur have signed Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City for a reported initial fee of £75 million ($102 million), taking their total spending in the transfer market beyond £300 million this summer.
The 22-year-old joins Spurs after two seasons at Manchester City, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player. Tottenham are now banking on his pace, creativity and attacking ability to strengthen their forward line after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season.
“It’s taken a while, but I’m very happy to be here. It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world,” Savinho said in a Tottenham statement.
The Brazil international added that his conversation with head coach Roberto De Zerbi convinced him to make the move, saying the manager’s ambition to help him reach the highest level was a major factor in his decision.
De Zerbi’s impact towards the end of last season helped Tottenham avoid dropping into the second tier of English football for the first time in 49 years. However, his rebuilding project suffered an early setback when Spurs began the new Premier League season with a 3-0 defeat to Brentford.
Savinho becomes the latest major addition to De Zerbi’s squad, following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have also joined on free transfers.
De Zerbi said Savinho would bring “energy, imagination and quality” to Tottenham’s attack, praising his courage to take on defenders and his ability to change games with his creativity.
Manchester City could reportedly receive up to £10 million in additional payments through add-ons.
There could be further business between the two clubs before the transfer window closes, with Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush also reportedly set to leave Manchester City for north London.
Savinho joined City from Troyes, one of the clubs controlled by the City Football Group, for £30 million in 2024 after making a name for himself during an impressive loan spell at Girona.
However, he struggled to reproduce that form consistently in England, scoring seven goals in 84 appearances for Manchester City.
Tottenham will now hope the £75 million signing can rediscover his best form and become a key figure in De Zerbi’s ambitious rebuild.
