Veteran Nollywood actor Ricardo Agbor has shared the emotional story of his 18-year journey to fatherhood, revealing how faith, patience and unwavering commitment to his wife eventually led to the birth of their twins.
Speaking in an interview with AfricanAList published on Sunday, Agbor reflected on his marriage, the long battle with childlessness and the heartbreaking loss of his mother.
The actor said he remained devoted to his wife throughout the years, despite the prolonged wait for children.
“I wanted to get married to a particular lady, and I married her regardless of where she is from. She is not from my tribe. Ordinarily, people would expect problems, but our marriage has been peaceful,” he said.
Recalling their journey to parenthood, Agbor revealed that he specifically prayed for twins and never allowed the delay to weaken his faith.
“It took 18 years for me to have the twins. I waited because I told God I wanted twins. If it were someone else, he might have given up, but at the end of the day, God answered me. I have a boy and a girl,” he said.
Beyond the joy of becoming a father, Agbor also recounted one of the darkest moments of his life—the death of his mother.
According to him, she had spent about three weeks receiving treatment without improvement before doctors advised that she be flown to South Africa for further medical care.
He said his mother instead requested to be moved to another private hospital in Surulere, but she died in his arms as he was helping her into the car.
“My mom died right in my arms. After almost three weeks in the hospital without improvement, they told me to take her to South Africa. My mother asked me to move her to another private hospital in Surulere. As I was carrying her into the car, she gave up,” he recalled.
The veteran actor described the experience as the most painful moment of his life, admitting that it was the first time he had cried outside of acting.
“I think that was the first time I cried in my life. I don’t cry, except when a movie role demands it. It was deeply painful,” he said.
Agbor’s story highlights a journey marked by patience, faith and personal loss, ending with the joy of welcoming the twins he had prayed for after nearly two decades of waiting.
